Open Auditions for Elf: The Musical




Producers of hit production Elf: The Musical have announced that open auditions will be held at The Lowry, Salford on Sunday 18th June. The show is looking for a young male actor to play the pivotal role of Michael Hobbs. 

 The successful auditionee will star alongside Ben Forster, who will play the role of Buddy the Elf, during the show's Christmas 2017 season. Elf: The Musical plays at Plymouth's Theatre Royal from Saturday 11th to Saturday 18th November before moving to The Lowry, Salford from Saturday 24th November to Sunday 14th January 2018. 

 The musical is searching for boys between 9 and 12 years old who are no taller than 4’10”. Auditionees must be excellent actors, singers (unbroken voice) and move well. Travel to London for rehearsals is required, as well as a stay in Plymouth for the first week of the run (accommodation will be provided). 

 Those wishing to audition must arrive at The Lowry for 10am and be prepared to stay until 3pm. The Lowry Tower Coffee Shop will provide food and drink for purchase throughout the day.

 Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit starring Will Ferrell, Elf: The Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Quaytickets enjoyed a surreal journey to work this morning as Manc music legend Shaun Ryder took over the Metrolink as part of BBC Music Day. The Black Grape and Happy Mondays front man provided announcements to bemused passengers on the Media City UK line, offering his...unique...insights upon arrival at each stop. Ryder, like the rest of us, had no idea what Pomona station was for. "Pomona?! Never heard of it!" he announced, declaring that the metro was (of course) "twisting his melon." Predictably enough, as the tram pulled into Exchange Quay Ryder gave a shout of "come on you Reds!" in reference to nearby Old Trafford. The singer reminisced about his home town at Salford Quays, adding that it was very different from the place he knew as a child. Six Miles From Home

This June marks the 50th anniversary of the Stockport air disaster, the fourth worst disaster in British aviation history and an event forever ingrained in the memory of the town of Stockport. Returning holidaymakers to Manchester after a trip to Mallorca, an aircraft owned by British Midland Airways crashed at Hopes Carr, a small patch of open land near the centre of the town. Of the 84 people on board, only 12 survived. A brand new film chronicling the events of that fateful day premieres at Stockport Plaza this Saturday.  A huge crowd gathered at the crash sight on the morning of Sunday 4th June. Looking Back: Will Young

Bill Kenwright's multi-award winning production of classic musical  Cabaret  arrives at The Lowry, Salford, this November following no less than two smash-hit West End runs at The Lyric and The Savoy theatres. Directed by the National Theatre's Rufus Norris and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Javier de Frutos, this production features all the iconic songs from Kander and Ebb's masterpiece, set to dazzling costumes and show-stopping choreography.
