Stockport Plaza
This special cinematic event from Grimm Up North sees the historic Stockport Plaza host an all-day movie marathon dedicated to "the Mexican master of the macabre," Guillermo Del Toro. Four of Del Toro's finest films will be shown back-to-back on the Plaza's enormous screen:
The mysterious, eternal life-granting Cronos. |
Cronos (18) - 12.30pm: In 1536, during the Mexican Inquisition, an alchemists builds Cronos, a mysterious device which grants its owner eternal life. When present-day antiques dealer Jesus Gris finds Cronos hidden inside an ancient statue, he unwittingly triggers the device and finds himself hunted down by an eccentric millionaire desperate for its healing powers.
Pan's Labyrinth (18) - 2.20pm: Young and imaginative Ofelia and her pregnant mother move to an old mill in the Spanish countryside to live with the sadistic Captain Vidal. In the night, Ofelia is led by a fairy to the centre of an underground maze. Here she is told she is a princess from a secret kingdom and is assigned with three tough, gruesome tasks. Pan's Labyrinth follows Ofelia as she negotiates the challenges of her magical world, as well as the harsh realities of post-Civil War Spain.

Blade II (18) - 7pm: Del Toro returns to the universe of Marvel Comics' BLADE in this action-packed sequel. A rare mutation in the vampire community has resulted in The Reaper; a vampire with such an insatiable thirst for blood that it preys on vampires as well as humans. As the ever-growing numbers of Reapers threatens the very existence of vampires, Blade is called upon by The Shadow Council to form a reluctant alliance with The Bloodpack - an elite team of vampires trained in all modes of combat - in order to defeat the new enemy.
